Beautiful Tile Starts With Proper Waterproofing
A custom tile shower should do more than look good—it should protect your home from water damage for years to come. That is why Mr. Mike’s Home Repair exclusively uses Schluter® Systems for the waterproofing and construction of our custom tile showers.
Tile and grout are not the waterproofing system. The products installed behind and beneath the tile are what keep water out of your walls, subfloor, and framing. We choose Schluter because its shower components are designed to work together as one complete, fully bonded waterproofing system.
Why We Choose Schluter® Systems
A Complete Waterproofing System
Schluter’s shower system includes waterproof wall panels or membranes, prefabricated shower trays, curbs, drains, sealed corners, pipe seals, mixing-valve seals, and waterproofing bands. These components work together to protect the entire shower—not only the areas that are easy to see.
Protection Behind Every Tile
Water can penetrate through grout joints and other vulnerable areas in a shower. Schluter places the waterproofing layer directly behind the tile, helping prevent moisture from reaching the wall cavities, subfloor, and structural framing.
Better Protection at Vulnerable Areas
Corners, seams, plumbing penetrations, shower curbs, niches, and drain connections are some of the most important areas to waterproof correctly. Schluter provides specially designed components for these locations so we do not have to rely on improvised waterproofing methods.
An Integrated Drain Connection
The Schluter®-KERDI-DRAIN is designed to connect directly to the waterproofing membrane at the surface of the shower assembly. This creates a continuous connection between the shower floor waterproofing and the drain.
Waterproof Niches, Benches and Curbs
Schluter offers waterproof components that allow us to create useful and attractive shower features, including:
Recessed shower niches
Shower benches
Traditional shower curbs
Low-profile and curbless entrances
Center and linear drains
Custom shower layouts
A System Designed for Long-Term Performance
A tile shower represents a substantial investment in your home. We use Schluter because we want the structure beneath your finished tile to receive the same attention as the parts you can see.
What Is Behind Your Tile Matters
Some showers may look beautiful when they are first completed but develop problems later because of shortcuts taken beneath the surface. Improperly waterproofed seams, corners, penetrations, curbs, and drains can allow moisture to reach areas that were never intended to get wet.
Those problems may not become visible until damaged drywall, loose tile, stained ceilings, deteriorated subflooring, wood rot, mold, or mildew has already developed.
Our goal is not simply to install tile. Our goal is to build a complete shower assembly designed to manage water properly from the beginning.
Our Tile-Shower Process
Every project is different, but a typical custom shower may include:
Removal of the existing shower or tub surround
Inspection of the exposed framing and subfloor
Repair of concealed damage when needed and authorized
Preparation and correction of the shower structure
Installation of the Schluter® waterproofing system
Sealing of seams, corners, fasteners, niches, and plumbing penetrations
Installation of the compatible Schluter® drain and shower components
Tile layout, cutting, installation, grouting, and finishing
Installation of trim, fixtures, and finishing details
Final inspection and cleanup
Why We Do Not Mix Waterproofing Systems
Each manufacturer designs and tests its products as a system. Mixing unrelated shower components can introduce compatibility questions and may affect available manufacturer warranty coverage.
By standardizing our tiled showers around Schluter products, our team can follow one proven installation process and use components designed to connect correctly. Schluter offers a 10-year limited shower-system warranty, with certain qualifying installations potentially eligible for lifetime coverage when the required Schluter products and materials are used. Manufacturer terms, product eligibility, and installation requirements apply.
Designed Around Your Home
Using a standardized waterproofing system does not mean every shower has to look the same. Homeowners can still personalize the visible design through choices such as:
Tile size, color, and pattern
Grout color
Shower niche size and location
Bench or footrest options
Shower curb or curbless entry
Center or linear drain
Edge profiles and trim
Shelving and storage
Coordinating bathroom flooring and backsplashes
The appearance is customized for your home while the waterproofing system behind it follows a consistent, dependable process.
